One of our passions is photography and everything to do with photography including pre-film, film and digital. Our primary photographer is Lorraine Pawlivsky-Love who has a professional photography background going back to 1979 with her first journalism imagery class at the Lethbridge Community College’s Journalism program.
After moving to Victoria in 1994, her dream of becoming a professional came true after graduating from the Western Academy of Professional Photography in 1996. Completing a BFA and M.Ed (Art Education) from UVic in 2005, Lorraine includes photography instruction as well as continuing to enjoy her role as visual designer.
In her words:
After stealing my Dad’s Pentax during summer vacation on Vancouver Island and filling a roll of Kodachrome with Long Beach tidal images, I was stunned at the photographs I made!
Dad could never quite figure out how he took photos he didn’t remember, but the next Christmas I was presented with a Kodak Instamatic. It was the girlie version with lace imprint on the front. Photography became a one of the most satisfying subjects for my father and I. Used cameras came my way with surprising regularity.
Sharing my passion and joy of making images that relate the emotions I experience is as integral as breathing. Anything from illustrating the love between two people during their wedding to architectural images of industrial buildings…my work is my gift to my clients and their world.
